Post-operative Care Instructions after Natural Adhesion Double Eyelid + Ptosis Correction Surgery
Post-Op Care
& Side Effects After Natural Adhesion + Ptosis Correction — Everything You Need to Know
Recovery is just as important as the
surgery itself. Here's a full guide to what to do, what to watch for, and when
to seek help.
Essential Post-Op Instructions
Your recovery results depend heavily on how well you follow post-operative care.
The following guidelines apply to all patients:
✓ Cold compress — First 2 days
Apply a cold compress during the first 2 days to reduce swelling and bruising.
✓ Warm compress — For 5 days
Helps improve blood circulation and reduce swelling and bruising.
✓ Do not rub your eyes
Rubbing or pressing the eyelids may loosen the adhesion or cause inflammation.
Avoid for at least 1 month.
✓ Makeup — From Week 2
Eye makeup (liner, mascara) can be applied approximately 1 week after suture removal.
Avoid applying makeup before that.
✓ Facial cleansing — From Day 7
Face washing is allowed only after suture removal (Day 7).
Keep the eye area completely dry before then.
✓ No alcohol or smoking
Both can impair circulation and delay healing.
Avoid for at least 1 month.
✓ No contact lenses for 4 weeks
Contact lenses may irritate the surgical site and place pressure on the eyelids.
Use glasses during recovery.
Week-by-Week Recovery Timeline
Days 1–3
✓ Keep your head elevated above heart level to reduce swelling
✓ Take prescribed eye drops and antibiotics as directed
✓ Avoid bending over or sudden head movements
✓ If tearing occurs, gently blot — do not wipe or rub
Days 4–7
✓ Keep water away from the eye area until sutures are removed
✓ Do not massage the eyelids — this may disrupt the suture line
✓ Wear sunglasses outdoors for UV protection
✓ Limit prolonged screen time (phones, TV, monitors)
Weeks 1–4
✓ Avoid heavy lifting or intense physical activity
✓ Avoid saunas, steam rooms, and swimming pools
✓ Sleep on your back — avoid sleeping face-down
✓ Complete the full course of any prescribed medication
Months 1–3
✓ Avoid aggressive massage around the eye area
✓ Attend all scheduled follow-up appointments
✓ Rest your eyes adequately if they feel fatigued
Possible Side Effects
Side effects can be grouped into three categories.
Understanding them helps you stay reassured — and know when to seek care.
Normal Responses (resolve on their own)
Swelling & Bruising
Typically subside within 1–2 weeks. Initial swelling is normal and expected.
Incomplete Eye Closure
Common after ptosis correction. Usually resolves within 1–2 months.
Dryness & Foreign Body Sensation
Temporary during healing. Artificial tears can help relieve discomfort.
Monitor Closely (consult if persistent)
Left–Right Asymmetry
Often caused by uneven swelling in the early stage.
If it persists beyond 6 months, revision may be considered.
Fold Fading or Loosening
Although natural adhesion is more durable than buried sutures,
rubbing or trauma may weaken the crease over time.
Over- or Under-Correction
Eyes may open more or less than intended.
Final evaluation is typically done at 3–6 months.
Trichiasis (Lash Misdirection)
Eyelid repositioning may cause lashes to irritate the eye surface.
Consult if symptoms persist.
Rare — Seek Medical Attention Immediately
Infection or Severe Inflammation
Symptoms include increasing redness, pain, warmth, or discharge.
Hematoma (Blood Pooling)
Appears as firm, painful swelling under the skin and requires prompt treatment.
